A Murrieta man and a Menifee man were arrested on drug charges Monday after officers conducted a search of their vehicle for a parole violation.

Michael Lamonica, 23, of Murrieta and Richard Cooley, 36, of Menifee were detained after a Murrieta Police officer approached the two suspects sitting in a parked vehicle in a business parking lot near Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Madison Avenue about 6:45 p.m., according to a news release. A records check revealed that Cooley on was post release community supervision for weapons-related charges. He also had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.

The terms of probation allowed officers to search the vehicle, where they located narcotics paraphernalia along with two safes and a backpack. A police service dog brought in detected drugs in both safes and the backpack. A significant amount of methamphetamine, heroin and a digital scale was found in one of the safes. Narcotics paraphernalia was found in the other safe.

Cooley was arrested for his outstanding felony warrant, possession of narcotics for sales and possession of a controlled substance for sales. Lamonica was arrested for possession of narcotics for sales and possession of a controlled substance for sales. Both were booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

Cooley's presence was the product of Assembly Bill 109, the "early release" bill for non-violent felons, police said.

  1. Build more prisons, even if I have to pay more in taxes! Many of these "non violent" offenders are classified as such because they were allowed to plead down.

  2. Building more prisons isn't the answer. WAKE UP!!!! Stop with the old out of date ineffective solutions. First of all. The police went on private property to do a parole search sitting in a car in parking lot? So someone called in suspicious persons sitting in vehicle and police just got lucky? Or cop know the vehicle and who was in it and harassed the two for sitting in a car in a parking lot?

Hilary Clinton can steal senior citizens hard earned money as she and bill did when they were involved with white water which made them very very rich off pre screened at risk people...retired folks who the clintons knew might miss a payment. Just one payment after putting down huge deposits, and the old people lose their homes if just one payment is not made. & the property then resold and another person puts down another huge deposit on same property and around again it goes. AND HER LATEST CRININAL ACTS which are horrific! And she is still free and running for president??!!!!! The only thing worse than that are her supporters who know this and don't care about what criminal things she's done!
