Murrieta Mesa High's boys basketball team kept its momentum rolling Friday night as the Rams took out Norco High 62-50 to propel themselves to the semifinal round of the Murrieta Valley Nighthawk Classic.

There wasn’t anyone on the Cougars that were able to matchup with Rams big man, Brandon McIntosh, who torched Norco in the painted area, recording 17 points and 10 rebounds, with most of his points coming from put-back layups that kept frustrating Norco.

Norco’s starting guards, Cesar Meza and Isaiah Wade, were the main reasons the Cougars were able to keep up with Mesa for much of the game. Meza scored 15 points and dished out 5 assists while Wade scored 17 points on three 3-point field goals.

The Rams were able to find cohesiveness throughout their play, as they had effective screening and cutting to find an open man for an easy score. They had a simple game plan and ran with it all night long.

Murrieta Mesa (3-4) did not run a play every single possession. The Rams studied the defense being played and were able to draw something up on the fly with constant movement from their players. This comes from the fast-paced play style from guard Elisha Williams. Williams had 13 points and 4 assists.

Both teams had a hot start shooting in the first quarter, but then fell off a bit in the second quarter, as both teams scored a combined 15 points.

The biggest downfall in Norco’s offense was the fact that there was no inside presence to find easy attempts. Instead, the Cougars kept jacking up threes as they saw their one-point deficit turn into 15 midway through the fourth quarter. Mesa was also in control of the game's tempo.

Murrieta Mesa will face off against La Sierra Saturday and the winner will move on to the championship game.
