A man was killed Sunday night when he ran across the southbound lanes of Interstate 215 near Clinton Keith Road in Murrieta and was struck by four vehicles, authorities said.

Julian Martinez, 23, of Chula Vista left his disabled vehicle on the northbound 215 just north of Clinton Keith Road shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release. Martinez reportedly ran across the northbound freeway lanes, hopped the center divider wall and tried to cross the southbound lanes.

Martinez was struck first by a 2004 Infiniti driven by a 19-year-old male from Cambridge, Arizona. The drivers of three other vehicles also could not stop in time and struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

All four drivers remained on the scene and no arrests were made. The case is under investigation and it has not been determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
