Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Murrieta Mesa:

Sophomore Peyton Vogel scored 5 goals and 3 assists in her first seven games for the girls soccer team. "Peyton's speed and vision make her a dangerous attacker going forward," said coach Mark Vogel. "In addition to her performance on the field, Peyton is working hard during training to help the team reach their goals. Peyton maintains a positive 'team-first' attitude and is truly worthy of being girl's varsity's first Athlete of the Week for this new season."

Vogel also had high praise for another honoree from the girls soccer team, junior Mackenzie Beringer. "Mack has made a huge impression since joining the varsity squad this year," Vogel said. "Always giving her best, Mack has been a game changer in midfield for our team. She is relentless as a defender and has great vision offensively. She has quickly become a player that is trusted during tough competition. Her work ethic during training and continued willing attitude makes her an easy choice for Athlete of the Week."

Alexus Williams had huge efforts in two victories last week for the girls basketball team, which is 12-4. She finished the week with 20 points and was a leading force in rebounds and steals. "She has consistently been a spark for our team on both sides of the floor, causing havoc on defense and being aggressive on offense," said her coach, Kyle Rouse. "This week with league starting, we look for more of the same."

Senior guard Anthony Routh is averaging 12.4 points per game for the boys basketball team, which is 9-8 heading into league play.

These players will be eligible for the Athlete of the Month award. To purchase a print copy of this article, email murrieta247info@gmail.com.
