Heavy rain that pounded the Southland on Sunday and will continue on Monday forced road closures and at least two swift water rescues in Murrieta.
The Murrieta Police Department announced the following street closures Sunday night:
-- ROAD CLOSED: Monroe south of Los Alamos
-- ROAD CLOSED: Kalmia between New Clay and Hayes
-- ROAD CLOSED: Briggs between Los Alamos and Winchester
-- Adams, Brown and Guava are all flooded. Water is 3-4 feet deep on Adams between Elm and Fig. Westbound lanes of the Warm Springs Creek Bridge are flooded at Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Whitewood. There is a sink hole at the same location.
-- Kalmia is flooded at 2nd Street, 3rd Street, 4th Street, 5th Street and New Clay
Two adults and two children were rescued from a truck near Monroe Avenue and Los Alamos Road when it became stalled in flood water.
As of 11 p.m. Sunday, all schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District were expected to be open on Monday. We will provide updates as they become available.
