Four of six people arrested by Murrieta Police officers Thursday night were booked on suspicion of mail theft, according to authorities.

Mail theft is a recurring problem in Southwest Riverside County, and these arrests were the result of an alert citizen who called police while noticing strange activity in a Murrieta neighborhood. The caller reported at 4:24 a.m. that subjects were going through mailboxes in the area of Silkwood Court and Spinning Wheel Drive.

The caller provided a description of the vehicle that dropped the subjects off and in which direction the subjects were traveling on foot. Officers arrived quickly and observed four people walking on Spinning Wheel Drive, matching the description provided. Officers noticed mail thrown on the ground and protruding from the suspects' clothing. They were detained.

Another officer located the vehicle, driven by Edward Greer, 32, of Murrieta. A records check revealed Greer had been arrested Jan. 24 for an outstanding felony warrant and was out on bail. Officers found two batons and three knives in the vehicle.

After the five subjects were taken to the Murrieta Police Department, detectives investigating the case discovered that four of the suspects had been staying at a hotel in Temecula. A search of that location revealed 19.3 pounds of marijuana and additional pieces of stolen mail. A sixth suspect was taken into custody.

Those arrested were:

-- Morgan Banks, 46, of Costa Mesa, booked for mail theft and possession of narcotics controlled substance.

-- Greer, booked for possession of burglary tools and a baton and a felony committed while on bail.

-- Brianna Gross, 21, of Compton, booked for mail theft.

-- Gabriela Suazo, 22, of Long Beach, booked for mail theft.

-- Stephanie Senechal, 22, of Santa Ana, booked for mail theft.

-- William Nibeel, 29, of Huntington Beach, booked for possession of marijuana.
