Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Vista Murrieta High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Vista Murrieta:

Jacob Pickell is leading the boys soccer team in scoring with 5 goals, picking up his latest against Chaparral Jan. 18. "His presence about the goal and understanding of the system has allowed him to be in the correct position to put away goals all season long," said his coach, John Hanson.

Natalie Dixon of the girls soccer team had a goal and an assist in a 5-0 victory over Chaparral last week. She has helped the Broncos to an 11-3-2 overall record 4-0 in league play.

Senior point guard Michael Carongcong for the boys basketball team, which is 17-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Keiara Barton has played a leading role for the girls basketball team, which is 13-4 overall and 5-0 in league play. "Although Keiara has played a significant role on our team all season, she especially stepped up this week," said coach Kurt Ruth. "With teammate and second leading scorer Dani Weinmann out due to injury, Keiara reached double figures, scoring 12 and 11 points against Temecula Valley and Valley View, respectively. As always, she played stellar defense and impacted the game in that regard as well."

These players will be eligible for the Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to purchase a print copy of this article may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
