Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Vista Murrieta High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Vista Murrieta:

Senior Emma Vanderhyden had two goals and an assist during two victories for the girls soccer team against its Murrieta rivals. She scored a goal with an assist in a 4-2 victory over Murrieta Valley and scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Murrieta Mesa. The Broncos are 10-3-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Junior Gabby Stoll had two big games for the girls basketball team to open league play last week. She scored 12 points with 5 rebounds in a 56-27 win over Murrieta Valley, then had her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-18 win over Chaparral. She has played only four games this season and is averaging 10.3 point and 9 rebounds. The team is 11-3 overall and 3-0 in league.

Freshman center back Jacob Nichols has performed consistently for the boys soccer team. "Jacob had a tremendous first week of league, anchoring a back line that is quietly getting better each game," said coach John Hanson. "Although he is a freshman, he plays with the demeanor of a senior. We are going to continue to expect great things from him."

These athletes will be eligible for the Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to purchase a print copy of this article may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
