Basketball standouts Ravi Alston and Keilanei Cooper have been named Murrieta 24/7 Athletes of the Month from Vista Murrieta High School for the month of January.

Alston is a big reason the boys basketball team finished the regular season strong and is heading to the first round of the CIF playoffs on Wednesday, a 7 p.m. game at home against Redlands.

The senior's attitude and determination of provided valuable leadership skills for the Broncos down the stretch. Alson has also contributed some double-digits scoring when needed, including 14 points in a 66-54 win over Temecula Valley near the end of the season.

Cooper is averaging 18.1 points per game for the girls basketball team, which is 19-6 heading into Thursday's 7 p.m. home playoff opener against North Torrance. She also averages 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4 steals per game.

"Keilanei also does a great job of protecting the ball, with a better than 3:1 ratio of assists to turnovers, and she also leads the team in 3-point shots made with 47," said her coach, Kurt Ruth. "As the only returning varsity player for our team this season, her experience in big games has also been very important.

"Keilanei has already signed her letter of intent to continue her education and play basketball at UC Riverside on an athletic scholarship, and she has a great opportunity to make an immediate impact next year."
