Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's honorees from Murrieta Mesa:

Taylor Perales just completed his third year on the boys varsity soccer team and has made a huge impact, according to his coach, Robert Bokma.

"Ever since Taylor has joined our program, he has brought stability and a change of mentality to the team," Bokma said. "He has been instrumental in the change in the team's performance on the field. Many players have become more confident going into games and the team's play has shown this. The team won its first league game in Taylor's first year with the program and we have continued to have a better season every year.

"It is not to say that all of this is due to just Taylor, but as a coach, you can tell when something has an effect that changes the momentum of the team, and Taylor has been that missing piece. I have coached several years now in different types of soccer, from recreational to competitive teams, and in all those years I have never had a player like Taylor. He is mature above and beyond what his age is and he shows it all the time. He is a leader and a very respected leader."

Alex Delgado
helped lead the girls basketball team into the first round of the CIF playoffs. "Alex continues to be our spark coming off the bench and is a consistent player for our team," coach Kyle Rouse said. "She always brings energy every time she steps on the floor."

One of the girls water polo team's top players all season long was Kate Fox, who was named Athlete of the Month in January. "Kate is truly the heart of the girls team," said coach Audra Woods. "She led her team to a final great season. Even with three people on her, she still was scoring and playing solid defense. She is truly an impact player."

This is the final week that winter sports athletes will be honored. Murrieta 24/7 will begin honoring spring sports athletes the week of March 6.
