Soccer standouts Caitlin Rogers and Sergio Bugarin have been named Murrieta 24/7 February Athletes of the Month at Murrieta Valley High School.

Rogers helped the girls soccer team compile a 13-7-3 record and advance to the second round of the CIF playoffs.

"Caitlin is a fantastic player and leader on the field, working hard to make her teammates better along the way," said her coach, Shane Ebert. "Caitlin’s tremendous ability to strike a ball is something to be seen, and she can steal a ball from the most talented players."

Rogers, who played center midfielder, will continue her soccer career at the University of Montana next season. A trip to a summer camp there convinced her it was the school for her and eventually resulted in a scholarship offer.

Meanwhile, she competes in the 400-meter run for the track team.

Bugarin, a senior left wing, showed great leadership for the Nighthawks boys soccer team, which failed to make the CIF playoffs but provided a platform for significant player development this season.

"Sergio was a captain this year and ended his stellar varsity career with a beautiful goal in his final high school game," coach Matt Stratton. "Sergio is an extremely hard worker and is looking to play at the next level. He has quite a few offers.

"Sergio is not only a great player, but a great person. You will not meet a nicer kid off the field and such a strong competitor on the field."

Bugarin transitioned right into the club soccer season and hopes to continue his career at the college level.

"I feel like we finished strong and the team definitely developed and improved our weaknesses," he said about the Nighthawks' season.
