Murrieta 24/7 is pleased to honor outstanding athletes at area high schools. Each coach of a sport in season is allowed to select one athlete per week as Athlete of the Week. Here are this week's honorees from Murrieta Valley High School:

Marquis Spiker caught 6 passes for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns last Friday in the football team's 38-20 win over Oaks Christian. Spiker now has 640 receiving yards for the season and 3,806 yards in his career, setting a record for most yards by a receiver in Inland Empire history.

Natalie Duffy won all three matches against top-ranked Dana Hills for the girls tennis team. In the league opener against Vista Murrieta, she again won all of her matches, finishing the week with 5 wins and 0 losses.

Senior water polo player William Barnes scored 3 goals in a non-league victory against Los Osos last weekend.

Senior cross country runner Arabella Reece posted a time of 18:00 in the girls varsity blue division at the 37th annual Woodbridge Classic in Norco Sept. 16. She placed ninth out of 171 girls and first for Murrieta Valley, leading her team to a fifth-place finish out of 25 teams.

Venecia Zaia had outstanding rounds of 37 against Vista Murrieta and 35 against Temecula Valley for the girls golf team.
