Murrieta 24/7 is pleased to honor outstanding athletes at area high schools. Each coach of a sport in season is allowed to select one athlete per week as Athlete of the Week. Here are this week's honorees from Murrieta Mesa High School:

Cross country runners Hayley Richards and Matthew Watts each ran personal bests last Friday at the Desert Twilight meet in Casa Grande, Arizona. Watts ran 17:16 in the 5K, improving 12 minutes from his previous participation. Richards improved 1 minute when she clocked 20:34.

Tennis player Sumer Robbin is the team's line 2 singles player and continues to battle each week to stay at the top of her game, said coach Lisa Laney.

The boys water polo honoree is Cameron Bentley. His hard work both offensively and defensively helped lead team to a big league win over Chaparral, said coach Audra Woods.

Coaches of varsity sports are invited to select one athlete per week and email the information to doug.spoon@gmail.com.
