A Murrieta man faces charges of robbery, felony evading and parole violations after a police chase in connection with a bank robbery in Lake Elsinore, authorities said.

Thomas Burke, 27, was taken into custody after his vehicle collided with another vehicle as it exited the 15 Freeway at Cajalco Road Saturday afternoon, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. The suspect had been traveling north on the freeway after fleeing from the scene of a bank robbery in the 29000 block of Canyon Hills Road.

As officers chased the suspect's Buick sedan, the suspect threw cash taken during the robbery from the vehicle onto the freeway, according to Deputy Armando Munoz. He was treated for injuries suffered in the collision before being booked. The driver whose vehicle collided with the suspect fled the scene and has not been identified.

The freeway was closed for a short time to recover evidence that had been thrown out of the vehicle.
