A Murrieta man died Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle while walking across a freeway off-ramp, authorities said.

The 60-year-old man, whose name was not released, had exited the northbound 215 Freeway at Los Alamos Road about 5:20 a.m. when his 2012 Toyota Camry became disabled while pulled over to the left side of the off-ramp, according to a CHP news release. The driver attempted to cross the off-ramp on foot and walked directly into the path of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma pick-up, which was exiting the freeway at approximately 40 mph.

The second driver was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian, who died at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was not charged.

The CHP is conducting a traffic collision investigation.
