Murrieta 24/7 honors area high school athletes for their accomplishments. Coaches of each sport are invited to submit athletes for recognition. Here are this week's Athletes of the Week at Murrieta Mesa High School:

Boys basketball coach Chris Jones said he wished to honor the six seniors on his team, which is 22-8 overall heading into the second round of the playoffs. They are Ellis Catchings, Caleb Lowe, Gio Sanders, Elisha Williams, Lamar Wright and Shamar Wright. They combined for 44 points and 29 rebounds in a 63-50 win over Murrieta Valley on Feb. 9.

"They have been the foundation for our school-record 21 wins and No. 4 seed in the CIF Div. 3A playoffs," Jones said before the playoffs started.

Soccer player Caden Douglas "has stepped up to be the team captain," said coach Robert Bokma. "He has proven to be a true leader throughout the season. He has led by example and helped his team to a great season. Not only does he lead on the field, but he is a leader off the field as well. He is respected by all his teammates and fellow students.

"Caden has worked hard ever year to help this program get better and better. He has been one of our cornerstones of the defense. Over the past few years, we have witnessed Caden become an amazing young man and we are so excited for his future, as we all know he is going to be very successful. It has been a privilege to have Caden be part of our program and we can't thank him enough for everything he has done for us."
