Murrieta 24/7 honors area high school athletes for their accomplishments. Coaches of each sport are invited to submit athletes for recognition. Here are this week's Athletes of the Week at Murrieta Valley High School:

Senior Megan Ormiston (left) is averaging 18.4 points and 14.9 rebounds per game for the girls basketball team, which finished the regular season with a 7-3 record in league play to earn a CIF playoff berth.

Reed Hurst of the wrestling team was honored following his pin of a Murrieta Mesa opponent in a league match.

Senior guard Andrew Shackelford (right) of the boys basketball team shot 44 percent from the floor in recent games against Chaparral and Temecula Valley. In the Chaparral game, he was 2 for 2 from 2-point range and 4 for 10 from 3-point range, as well as 2 for 2 from the free throw line for a total of 18 points. Against Temecula Valley, he was 5 for 12 from 3-point range for a total of 15 points.

Allie Vargas (left) of the girls soccer team had an outstanding first week of February through her skill, attitude, and effort to help motivate her teammates, said coach Shane Ebert. "Playing both defender and forward, she has had a huge impact at both ends of the field," Ebert said. "She is a great student who works hard each and every day."
