Murrieta 24/7 honors area high school athletes for their accomplishments. Coaches of each sport are invited to submit athletes for recognition. Here are this week's Athletes of the Week at Vista Murrieta High School:

Girls basketball player Nakela Smith scored a career-high 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting in the Broncos' 67-47 victory over Murrieta Valley Feb. 6. She followed that up on Feb. 10 with 10 points in a 53-42 victory over Great Oak.

"More importantly, she hit the biggest shot of the night for us," said coach Kurt Ruth. "Only leading by four points with approximately two minutes remaining in the contest, she hit a three-point shot from the left corner to pretty much clinch the win for us. On the week she shot 50 percent (5-for-10) from three-point range. She has also consistently been one of our best defenders all season, and she provided great pressure in both games, creating numerous turnovers by the opposition."

Sophomore goalkeeper Isaiah Thomas posted two shutouts last week for the boys soccer team. He is ranked in the top 5 in goals-against average in Division 5 and the top 30 in all of the CIF Southern Section. "His tremendous play has been a pillar of our success this season," said coach John Hanson.
