A Murrieta woman was killed Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the 15 Freeway caused by a man suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, officials said.

Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Washington was booked into the Southwest Detention Facility. According to a CHP report, Caldera was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado truck southbound at a high rate of speed when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2015 Nissan Altima, causing a six-vehicle chain reaction crash south of Rancho California Road in Temecula.

Janet Genao, 44, the driver of the Altima, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

A Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 38-year-old male from Wildomar left the freeway and crashed into the side of a parking garage for Temecula City Hall. He sustained major injuries. Occupants of the three other vehicles sustained minor or no injuries.

The southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway were closed for more than four hours Tuesday morning because of the collision. The CHP is investigating the incident.
