One of three suspects arrested Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was taken into custody in Murrieta, authorities said.

The Murrieta Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff's Department assisted LAPD in making the arrest of the suspect, who was not named. Two other suspects reportedly were taken into custody in Los Angeles and Temecula. On its Twitter page, the LAPD released the following statement:

"We can confirm that earlier this morning several arrests were made in connection with the murder of LAPD Officer Juan Diaz. Although this investigation is ongoing, which limits our ability to provide further details at this time, we feel confident a murderer is off the streets.

"Early this morning, we served several warrants in connection with the murder of Officer Diaz last week. Thank you to our law enforcement partners, including @MurrietaPD, for their assistance today."

Diaz was shot about 1 a.m. last Saturday as he confronted a group of individuals who were painting graffiti near a taco stand at Avenue 26 and Artesian Street in Los Angeles. Diaz, 24, died at the scene.

The exact location in Murrieta where the suspect was apprehended was not released. One resident told Murrieta 24/7 there was heavy police activity on Fayence Drive, south of Clinton Keith Road, early Friday morning.
