A suspect was shot to death by police after a chase through the streets of Murrieta today, according to authorities.

The incident began at 8:47 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Deputies responded to the 31000 block of Borega Road in French Valley to the report of a male who brandished a gun and appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

From that location, east of French Valley airport, the suspect fled in a truck and failed to yield to deputies. Police made various attempts to get the suspect to surrender but were unable to do so. Deputies saw the suspect with a gun at one point in the chase.

The pursuit ended at 9:52 a.m. on Jefferson Avenue near Grizzly Ridge Drive. Using a bearcat armored vehicle, police were able to disable the truck. The suspect fired at deputies, striking several vehicles, before deputies shot the suspect.

The suspect, who has not been identified, died at the scene. No one else was injured. A joint investigation is being conducted with the Murrieta Police Department.
